Scoot, Luke lift the Patriots (08/25/06)

With time ticking away, the seniors came through.
The Jay County and Delta boys soccer teams were heading for a tie game Thursday before Patriot seniors Luke McClung and Scott "Scooter" Bruggeman connected on a goal with less than five minutes to play. The home team was able to hold on, improving to 2-1 thanks to the 2-1 victory over the Eagles.
Ryan Wellman gave Jay County the lead midway through the first half as he scored after a scramble in front of the goal. However, Delta evened the score just three minutes later.
The game remained tied until McClung sent a free kick from the left corner toward the right post, where a header by Bruggeman found the net for the game-winning goal. Bruggeman took four of the Patriots' nine shots on goal while Delta managed just three shots in the game.
Derek Mills finished with two saves.
Junior varsity
Jay County rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie the Eagles 2-2 Thursday.
After falling behind, the Patriots pulled two within one with Brad Horn's third goal of the season. Derek Bartlett scoring the tying goal on a penalty kick.
In its opening game, Jay County rolled to a 5-0 victory led by two scores from Horn. Adding single tallies were Jordan Moser, Justin Moser and Isaac Poole.[[In-content Ad]]
