Scots end Patriot tennis win streak (04/28/05)

ANDERSON — There were three close matches Wednesday, but Anderson Highland won them all. The host Scots put an end to the three-match winning streak for the Jay County girls tennis team, topping the Patriots 4-1.
Jay County (4-4) got its lone win at No. 2 singles from Erin St. Myers. The senior won for the fifth straight time, extending her singles record to 5-1 with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Mandy Coplin.
Both doubles matches went to three sets, and No. 3 singles player Julie Sours was close in both of her sets only to fall to defeat.
At No. 1 doubles Chelsea Reff and Brianne Morrical rolled in the first set to a 6-2 victory only to go on to a 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 loss to Kelsey McFadden and Becky Swenk. Stephanie Homan and Carissa Wilkins dominated the second set of their match against Ebony Anderson and Kathryn Luksus, but dropped the other two to lose 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
Sours pushed Abby Beard in both sets, but dropped a 6-4, 7-5 decision, and at No. 1 singles Whitney Schemenaur fell to Alexandria Hammel 6-0, 6-1.
The Patriot junior varsity team continued its run of success by knocking off Anderson Highland 3-2 for its fifth straight victory.
Leading that charge has been Angie Stults, who won for the fifth straight time by an 8-6 final at No. 1 singles.
Tiffany Bickel gave the team two of the three singles wins as she earned an 8-4 victory at the No. 3 spot. The No. 2 doubles team of Betsy Knittle and Cindy Muhlenkamp took an 8-6 triumph to complete the team win.
Jay County nearly grabbed a fourth match but fell just short as Jessica Muhlenkamp and Megan Knittle took an 8-7 (7-4) loss at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 singles Megan Adams lost 8-1.[[In-content Ad]]
