Scots stop JCHS
JCHS girls tennis
ANDERSON - Picking up a point against the Scots was a step in the right direction.
Becky Muhlenkamp and Emily Huntsman took the No. 2 doubles match for the Jay County High School girls tennis team as it lost 4-1 Wednesday to the Anderson Highland Scots. The Patriots lost twice to Highland last season, both times by 5-0 scores.
After taking the first set, Huntsman and Muhlenkamp got shut out in the second. But after losing the first game of the third set they rallied back against Lexie Mechem and Michaela Hammel.
The Patriot pair broke Hammel's serve to pull even again, and then traded games to a 5-4 lead. Huntsman served out the match at love for a 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 victory.
Briann Saxman and Megan Huntsman played a tight first set at No. 1 doubles before struggling in the second. They suffered a 7-5, 6-1 loss to Alaina Codin and Emily Jones.
Mariah Clark was the only JCHS player to win a game in singles matches, falling 6-0, 6-2 to Emily Marstall at No. 3. Kayla Martin and Hannah McAbee each lost 6-0, 6-0 to Mercy Scot and Ashlan Allison at No. 1 and 2 singles respectively.
The Patriots (3-4) had won back-to-back matches over Muncie Southside and South Adams.
