Local Boy Scout Troop No. 202 recently relived a part of history as they participated in a camping program aboard the World War II Aircraft Carrier “Yorktown” in Charleston Harbor, S.C.

The troop joined other troops as they toured the Yorktown as well as the World War II Submarine Clamagore the World War II Destroyer Laffey and the World War II Coast Guard Cutter Ingham.

Morning and evening meals were prepared and served to the scouts in the “Chief’s Mess” aboard the Yortkwown. They also took a boat ride to Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor.

Troop No. 202 is sponsored by the Immaculate Conception Church, and its leader is Rick Imel.

APRIL PROGRAMS AT JAY COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY

The Jay County Reads program at the Jay County Public Library is reading the book “Tuesdays with Morrie.” The library will be offering discussions of the book as well as several other programs during the month of April.

• Afternoon book discussion — Monday, April 5 at 2 p.m.

• Scrapbooking Class for teens and adults (bring photos) — Tuesday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m.

• Morning book discussion — Thursday, April 8 at 9:30 a.m.

• Nightline interview with Morrie Schwartz, Morrie: Lessons on Living — Saturday, April 10 at 1 p.m.

• Journaling program — Monday, April 12 at 7 p.m.

• Evening book discussion — Wednesday, April 14 at 7 p.m.

• Hospice and Home Elder Care program — Tuesday, April 20 at 7 p.m.

• Book discussion group for teens — Wednesday, April 21 at 6:30 p.m.

• Brown Bag Lunch Discussion (bring sack lunch) — Friday, April 23 at noon.

All programs are free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served at the discussion groups and the movie. Registration is required. For more information or to register, call Miranda Hummel at (765) 726-7890.

The deadline for the “Tuesdays with Morrie” essay contest for Jay County students ages 15 to 18 is Friday, April 30. Essays are due at the library by 8 p.m. Copies of the essay rules and criteria are available at the library and Jay County High School.

An Easter Craft Special will be held Saturday April 3, from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Community Room at the Jay County Public Library. Preschool and elementary aged children are welcome to come and complete an Easter craft or two any time during the two hour time period. Children under age seven must be accompanied by an adult.

There will be story times held on Monday, April 5, 12, and 19 at 11:15 a.m.

Story time on Tuesdays in April will be April 6 and 20 at 1 p.m.

Children ages infant and up are welcome to attend, accompanied by and adult.

BUNNY TAKES TRAIN

Join the Easter Bunny as he travels down the Whitewater Valley Railroad for an Easter egg hunt at the Bunny Patch. Find the Easter Bunny’s Golden Egg and win a special prize from the Whitewater Valley Railroad’s Railroad Store.

The train will leave from Grand Central Station in downtown Connersville Saturday, April 10. Scheduled times are 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.

Tickets are $4 for adults and $3 for children ages eight and under, and include round trip train fare and the Easter egg hunt.

Don’t forget to bring your Easter basket to gather your eggs in.
