FORT RECOVERY — With current Fort Recovery Supt. Pat Niekamp set to leave the school corporation in December, the search for a new superintendent for the Fort Recovery School Corporation is in high gear.
Kathleen LaSota, Deputy Director of Search Services and Board Development with the Ohio School Boards Association, spent all day Monday talking with staff members and community members about the type of candidate that would be a good fit for the district.
“We pride ourselves at OSBA in bringing candidates to the board that we feel are a good fit and good quality,” LaSota said. “If we feel they aren’t good quality, we don’t recommend them to the board.”
Niekamp announced late in the summer that he was leaving his position at the end of December to become the county superintendent for the Auglaize County Educational Service Center in Wapakoneta, Ohio.
The vacancy for the position was announced in early September and the deadline to submit applications is Oct. 14. LaSota said she wants to have 18-25 “really good candidates” towards the middle of October. She will then rank the candidates and consult with the school board about which individuals they would like to interview towards the end of October. While LaSota will consult with the board about the candidates, it is the board members that will decide who comes back for a second interview and, ultimately, who is hired for the position by Nov. 7.
On Monday afternoon, LaSota spoke with a majority of Fort Recovery’s staff members; from maintenance staff to building principals.
Then Monday evening she spent an hour taking input from a small gathering of Fort Recovery community members that came to the high school to express their desires for the new school leader.
“It’s beneficial to me and it’s beneficial to the board,” LaSota said of all the information she gathered Monday. “It’s beneficial to me because I think I know what this district needs ... and so when I sit down with those candidates, I will see their faces and I will hear their issues, and I’ll be able to size up a candidate immediately.”[[In-content Ad]]
