Seniors lead JC golfers

In their last home meet of their high school careers, a pair of seniors led the Jay County High School golf team to a victory Tuesday at Portland Golf Club.
Evan Mathias shot a 38 to earn match medalist honors and Zach Fullenkamp posted a 41 to lead the Patriots to a 164-214 win over Adams Central.
Mathias made par on every hole but three as the only golfer to break 40. Fullenkamp made birdie on the par-5 14th, and shot even on all three par-3s.
Jay Houck, a freshman, made one birdie and parred three holes on his way to a 42. Austin Wendel posted the No. 4 score for the Patriots with a 43. The senior started his round with a birdie and a par, but triple bogeyed the par-5 12th.
Collin Saxman also competed for the Patriots, turning in a score of 57.

Jared Leham and Ben Griffith scored a 49 to lead Adams Central.

Frontline wins 8-7
Lexie Ferguson and Maddy Wenk each had three hits and scored a pair of runs in Frontline Construction’s 8-7 win over Fisher Meats in Portland Junior League Minor softball action.
Heidi Cox had two hits and scored twice for Frontline.
Emma Swingley, Reiley Brewster, Madison Eley, Drew Dressel and Justice Day each had two hits for Fisher.[[In-content Ad]]
