Seniors net four in JC win

Ericka Reynolds scored two second-half goals and fellow seniors Amber Huelskamp and Cydney Huey each added scores as the Jay County High School girls soccer team defeated the Centerville Bulldogs 5-2 Saturday on Senior Day.
Reynolds broke a 2-2 tie six minutes into the second half on a deflection from Carmen Lopez and added her second goal 25 minutes later.
Sandwiched by Reynolds’ first two goals of the season, Huey found netting at 17:53 from a cross by Huelskamp.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring as the two teams traded goals in the first half. Gabbie Mann scored the first goal for the Patriots (2-5-3) at the 11:58 mark, and Huelskamp found netting for her first goal of the season on a pass from Reynolds with 55 seconds remaining.
Mann had a team-high six shots for Jay County, while Stormi Canterbury and Lopez each added three. Sisters Maddie and Mariah Bailey each had a pair of shots for the Patriots, who totaled 21 shots on goal.
Emily Pogue made four saves in net for Jay County.

JC boys shutout
The Centerville boys soccer team scored two goals in the second half Saturday to defeat Jay County 2-0.
The Bulldogs netted their first goal with 25 minutes remaining in the contest, and added an insurance goal with two minutes left on the clock.
Jalen Ryder led the Patriots (3-6-2) with three shots on goal, while Trey Teagle added two.
Zach Chaney stopped nine shots as goalkeeper for Jay County.

JC 2nd at Yorktown
YORKTOWN — Megan Wellman led the Jay County girls cross country team to its second consecutive second-place finish Saturday at the Yorktown Invitational.
The Patriot boys placed 13th.
Wellman crossed the finish line in 20 minutes, 23 seconds for fourth place, leading the Patriots (40-3) to a team score of 71.
Defending regional champion Pendleton Heights won the invitational with a score of 26, and host Yorktown placed third with 114 points.
Abigail Johnson crossed the finish line in 21:12, while Kellie Fortkamp (21:35 – 15th), Emi Minnich (21:39 – 17th) and Kaitlin Hemmelgarn (22:30 -26th) rounded out the top five for the Patriots.
Michael Denney led the Jay County boys, crossing the finish line in 19:29 in 50th place, three seconds ahead of Tanner Craw in 51st.
Chaz Carroll (20:37 – 77th), Jake Nichols (21:24 – 89th) and Travis Barton (21:46 – 92nd) were the final three runners for Jay County.

JC spikers fall
FRANKLIN — The Jay County volleyball team dropped all three matches Saturday at the Franklin Tournament, falling to 9-12 on the season.
Southport defeated the Patriots 25-18, 25-19 in the first match. Jay County fell to Connersville in the second match, 25-23, 10-25, 15-7, and lost to Decatur Central 25-22, 25-9 in the third match.
Ava Kunkler had a team-high 11 kills in the tournament for the Patriots, while Bre McIntire, Kylie Osborne and Abby Wendel each added eight.
Faith Parr tallied 18 digs while Wendel added 17 and Lizzy Schoenlein 11.
Schoenlein also had a team-high 14 assists.

East Jay fourth, sixth
SELMA — The East Jay Middle School seventh grade volleyball team finished fourth Saturday at the Selma Invitational. The eighth graders placed sixth.
Hanna Dillon led the seventh-grade Chiefs with seven kills, and she also added six assists, four aces and two digs. Maggie Pryor recorded team highs in digs (15) and aces (7) for East Jay, and Kailee Denney and Gwen Omstead each added five kills.
Mallory Bost boasted team-highs in kills (6) and aces (4) for the East Jay eighth graders. She also added two assists. Lucy Laux led the Chiefs with 16 digs, Irene Braun added 12 digs and Briana Muhlenkamp scored 17 service points.[[In-content Ad]]
