Sertech takes opener (05/05/05)

PORTLAND — Sertech Heating and Cooling picked up the first victory of the Portland Junior League season, defeating Jay County REMC in Minor League softball action 19-9.

In the other Minor League game AmeriCare topped Crossroads Financial FCU 22-15.

Emily DeVoe powered Sertech, finishing a perfect 4-for-4 in the season opener with two doubles and a triple. She scored three runs.

Brooke Fouch doubled and scored twice, and LeAnne Horn had a double and a run. Chelsea Burns scored four times, and Rachelle Jackson and Nikka Chaney added three runs apiece.

Alexis Cook went 2-for-3 for REMC and scored three runs.

Brittany Manor and Krista Taylor each doubled and scored three times to lead AmeriCare’s victory. Abby Vance, Deidre Chenoweth, Kathryn Braun and Brittany Stevens scored three runs apiece.

Hannah Lugar singled and scored four times for Crossroads.

Golf outing set

The Geneva Chamber of Commerce will hold its inaugural golf outing Friday, June 10.

The event will be held at Wabash Valley Golf Course with check-in beginning at 11:30 a.m., lunch at noon and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The entry fee is $200, and the deadline to enter is Wednesday, June 1.
