PARKER CITY — The Jay County High School volleyball team made over 91 percent of its serves as it defeated the host Monroe Central Golden Bears Thursday, 25-23, 25-10, 25-22.
The Patriots (6-7) had five players who were perfect from the service line, including freshman Lizzy Schoenlein (15-for-15) and junior Faith Parr (10-for-10). They also had three aces each.
Kylie Osborne led the Patriot offense with seven kills, while Emily Westgerdes, Bre McIntire and Ava Kunkler each added four. Parr and Osborne led the Jay County defense with nine digs apiece, and Schoenlein and Malarie Houck recorded six and five digs respectively.
In junior varsity action, the Patriots defeated the Golden Bears 25-11, 25-21. Megan Smith led the Patriots with seven kills, while Emilie Walters had six. Katie Lyons and Gabby Hart tallied seven digs each to lead the Patriot defense, and Kerrigan had eight assists.

JC soccer falls short
CONVERSE — The Jay County girls soccer team is still searching for its first win of the season, as it rallied to tie the score late in the second half but fell to the host Oak Hill Golden Eagles 2-1 Thursday.
The Golden Eagles broke the scoreless tie just under six minutes into the second half, and the Patriots (0-4-3) responded as Alex Loy found the net on a breakaway with 6:51 left in the game.
Oak Hill netted the game-winning goal with 4:17 left to play.
Jay County out-shot the Golden Eagles 14-7, and were led by Stormi Canterbury and Loy with four shots each, while Gabbie Mann added three.
Emily Pogue made five saves as goalkeeper for the Patriots.
Jay County returns to the pitch at 10 a.m. Saturday as they host South Adams.
In junior varsity action, Katie Robbins fired two shots on net and the Patriots held the Golden Eagles to one shot on goal as the two teams played to a scoreless tie Thursday.

Bluffton defeats JC
BLUFFTON — Kody Degler recorded the only win for the Jay County boys tennis team Thursday as the Patriots fell to the Bluffton Tigers, 4-1.
Degler defeated Bluffton’s Alex Miller 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles, improving to 2-3 on the season.
Nick Leuthold fell to Mitchell Kuhlenbeck 6-2, 6-0 in No. 1 singles section, and Jake Schwieterman fell to Hunter Stoller 6-0, 6-3 in No. 2 singles.
In No. 1 doubles action, Jay County’s Josh Lykins and Zach Pryor fell to Jake Garrett and Jordan Smith 6-2, 6-1. Alex Kreig and Evan Mathias needed all three sets and a tiebreaker in their No. 2 doubles match, but fell to Grant Prible and Aaron Sturgeon 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (9-7).
The Patriots (2-6) return to the court in Muncie on Saturday to take on the Muncie Southside Rebels and the Connersville Spartans.[[In-content Ad]]
