Seven see end zone in East Jay wins (09/23/04)

MUNCIE — Seven different players scored touchdowns for East Jay Wednesday as both football teams defeated Muncie Wilson.

The eighth graders stayed perfect on the season, crushing the host Panthers 30-0. The seventh grade squad evened its mark at 2-2 by topping Wilson 28-18.

Billy Wellman was in on each of the first two touchdowns for the eighth grade team (4-0), first running in from 2-yards away. He then found Adam Garringer with a 24-yard touchdown pass.

Lance Franklin scored on a 22-yard run, and Brandon Reynard returned a fumble 20 yards for a touchdown. Dexter Shreve and Craig Permenter each had two-point conversion runs, and Wellman hit Shreve was a two-point conversion pass.

Mitch Martyne added a blocked punt, and Jacob Westlake had a fumble recovery.

Ben Vance started the scoring for the seventh graders, reaching the end zone in each of the first two quarters. He scored on a 40-yard run in the first quarter and a 27-yard run in the second. Adam Coats and Nick Stephens each ran in for a two-point conversion as East Jay led 16-12 at halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter, Stephens scampered 29 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Alex Langenkamp followed with a 48-yard scoring run to seal the victory.

Roessner 6th for FR CC

MINSTER, Ohio — Tina Roessner led the Fort Recovery junior high girls cross country team to a third-place finish at Minster Tuesday.

Roessner finished in 13-minutes, 33 seconds to place sixth overall.

Derrick Huelskamp was the top runner for the high school boys team, finishing 10th in 18:10. Mitch Fullenkamp was right behind him in 11th in 18:32.

Lindsay Sudhoff paced the high school girls in 34th in 24:17.

Roessner was trailed by Amber Heitkamp, who placed 24th in 15:06. Andrea Faller was 42nd in 17:30.

Austin Burkhardt was third for the high school boys, finishing 17th overall in 18:53. Steve Gaerke placed 31st in 20:01, Stan Roessner was 34th in 20:07 and Jim Roessner finished 36th in 20:18.

Also running for the Tribe were: Matt Heinrichs (52nd in 23:39) and Tyler Huelskamp (53rd in 27:25).

Marisa Minor was next for the high school girls in 41st in 25:59. Sam Bihn was 44th in 26:33, and Leanne Pottkotter took 45th in 26:34.

Fort tickets

Tickets for Fort Recovery’s football game Saturday at Lima Central Catholic are on sale.

They are available in the high school office today until 4 p.m. and Friday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. They will also be sold in the middle school office Friday from 8 to 11:30 a.m.

Directions to LCC are also available at both school offices.

Advance tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults. All tickets at the gate will be $6.[[In-content Ad]]
