Seven Stars earn honors (10/20/2008)

Seven members of the South Adams High School boys soccer team were honored recently as members of the All-Allen County Athletic Conference team.

Four Starfires were first-team selections when the teams were announced last week.

Zach Sharp, South Adams' leading scorer, was the lone sophomore to make the first team. He was joined by seniors Travis Lavy, Chase Sprunger and Joey Seyler.

Second-team selections for the Starfires were Gage Niece, Matt Fox and Blake Bauman.

Jay JV goes 2-1

MARION - Jay County High School's junior varsity volleyball team dropped its first match at Saturday's Marion Invitational, but rallied to win the next two.

The Patriots defeated Northfield 25-24, 25-9 and the host Giants 25-15, 24-25, 15-5. Their loss came by a 25-29, 25-22 score to Eastbrook.

Kassi Hemmelgarn led JCHS with 24 assists and 13 kills. She had double-digit assists in each of the victories.

Maria Murphy finished with 25 kills and eight blocks, Tanner Martin had 20 assists and 17 points and Taylor Burris totaled 17 points and 10 kills.

Alyssa Rigby and Megan May led the defense with 27 and 23 digs respectively. Becky Muhlenkamp scored 25 points.

Flyers down Tribe

FORT RECOVERY - The Fort Recovery High School junior varsity football team was outscored 30-6 in the second half as it fell 42-12 to the Marion Local Flyers.

Shane Brunswick scored in the second quarter as the Indians trailed just 12-6 at halftime. However, Marion Local scored two touchdowns each in the third and fourth quarters.

Brunswick added a 10-yard TD run for Fort Recovery in the fourth quarter.[[In-content Ad]]
