Sharp powers SA in 1st dual (11/15/06)

BERNE - Jessica Sharp was the only Starfire to win an individual event, but the South Adams girls swim team still had enough to win its first dual meet of the season.

SAHS, which finished fifth at the nine-team Norwell Invitational Saturday, picked up the victory by a 94-76 score over the DeKalb Barons.

Sharp scored sizable wins in the distance races to give the Starfires their lone victories in eight individual events. She dominated the 200-yard freestyle, winning by more than six seconds in 2-minutes, 15.09 seconds, and was first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:58.32.

South Adams also won two relays, with Sharp a part of both. She teamed with Jansen Yoder, Jalisa Balsiger and Megan Myers for first in the 200 freestyle relay for a winning time of 1:53.99, and joined Lauren Rich, Kirsten Wurster and Shannon Muselman to take the 400 freestyle relay in 4:20.41.

Chiefs split in opener

The East Jay Middle School boys basketball teams split a pair of tight games against Adams Central in season-opening action Tuesday. The eighth grade squad topped the Jets 34-31 while the seventh graders fell 32-30.

Aaron Emerick paced the victory for the Chiefs with 12 points. Garrett Krieg followed with nine points, and Austin Mann scored eight.

Andy Haffner reached double figures for the seventh graders with 10 points. Ben Aich scored six points, and Dillon Ainsworth had five.

WJMS drops pair to SA

DUNKIRK - South Adams' seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams overpowered the West Jay Eagles Tuesday for wins of 50-24 and 37-31 respectively.

Calvin Wyatt was the lone West Jay player in double figures in the seventh grade game as he shared game-high scoring honors with Mark Smith of South Adams with 13 points. Nick Batt added 12 points for the Starfires while Stephen Scott finished with six for the Eagles.

West Jay was outscored 15-6 in the fourth quarter of the eighth grade game after holding a three-point lead after three quarters. Zach Cash paced the Eagles with 17 points, and Ryan Miskinis and Anthony Skeens each added four.[[In-content Ad]]
