Sharp's two wins lead SAHS over Tigers (01/05/07)

BLUFFTON - Jessica Sharp added another pair of wins Thursday in leading the South Adams girls swim team to a 109-74 win over the Bluffton Tigers. The Starfire boys lost 105-71.

Sharp's victories came in the long-distance events as she took the 200-yard freestyle in 2:51.76 and the 500 freestyle in 6:46.82.

Channing Yoder finished in 2:52.89 to take the 200 individual medley, Jalisa Balsiger won the 100 butterfly in 1:25.89 and Allison Beitler took the 100 freestyle in 1:10.04.

Justin Klopp picked up a pair of wins for the South Adams boys. He was first in the two shortest events, finishing in the top spot in the 50 freestyle in 26.51 and the 100 freestyle in 56.78.

Alex Habegger had the only other individual win for the Starfires, postings a time of 1:15.36 in the 100 breaststroke.

South Adams' girls team won all three relays while the boys were first in the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.

Wildcats top Fort

MINSTER, Ohio - The first win was within reach for the Fort Recovery eighth grade boys basketball team, but the Indians fell short 46-42 Thursday to the Minster Wildcats. The seventh grade Indians also lost, 46-28.

Fort Recovery's eighth grade team (0-5) trailed by just two at the half and tied the game at 28.

But, the Wildcats put up 18 points in the fourth to take the win.

Craig Fortkamp led the Tribe with 15 points, and Nate Bihn followed with 13.

Minster grabbed a 12-2 lead in the opening period of the seventh grade game and kept a comfortable lead throughout.

Jared Kahlig scored 12 points for the Indians (1-4), and Jacob Leuthold and Jason Pottkotter each added six.

EJMS 6th grade rolls

The East Jay sixth grade boys basketball A team rolled Thursday to a 29-10 victory over the Yorktown Giants. The B team also won, 21-12.

Cade Price led the A team Chiefs with eight points. Kegan Comer added six points.

Brandon Ferner and Taylor Fugiett scored all of the points for the B team, finishing with 11 and 10 respectively.

Seven finish first

FISHERS - Seven local athletes finished in first place as members of Portland's Judan Judo club competed in a tournament Dec. 23 in Fishers.

Posting top finishes for Judan in their respective divisions were Jimmy Miller, Tashi Miller, Brianna Miller, Lindsey Myers, Brandon Resler, Adam Haffner and Adam Wilhelm.

Damion Resler and Andrew Toney each placed third.[[In-content Ad]]
