She needs answers for planning
As I See It
By Diana Dolecki-
Thanksgiving is over and the questions have begun. What do you want for Christmas? Whose turn is it to host the celebration? I have to work on Christmas so can we have it some other day? I’ll have the kids the week before the holiday and am taking some vacation time so can we make it that week? We are planning a trip around the holidays but haven’t decided yet when we are going so we might not be home then. Oh, by the way, what do you want for Christmas?
I absolutely despise the indecision. Give me a list of options for presents not the usual, “I don’t know,” and I’ll begin shopping. Give me a time and place and I’ll be there. Tell me it is at my house and I’ll go all out decorating and cooking. Just don’t make me scream, “Pick something!”
In all fairness, I am as indecisive as the next person. I would love to host the festivities but the house is under construction, as usual. I am part of the reason we haven’t decided what and when. I have managed to offer gift suggestions with prices beginning at a mere couple of dollars. It doesn’t take expensive presents to make me happy.
Indecision and doubt keep me from doing so many things. Should I do this or that? Maybe I should think about it some more. As a result nothing ever gets done. It took over a month to choose a color to paint a closet and we finally settled on yellow. The actual painting took less than an afternoon.
Life is like that. We ponder and we worry. Should we do this or that? In reality it is best to simply choose one of the options and run with it. Few things are irreversible. In the case of the closet, the worst thing that would have happened is that we wasted the cost of the paint and would have had to repaint it.
There is too much to do this time of year to waste time in indecision. Houses have to be buttoned up in preparation for the upcoming winter. Time is running out to finish up the yard work before the snow flies. The holidays will be here soon and there are presents to buy and decorations to unearth. For those of us who make things the pressure is on to finish that afghan we are making for a favorite relative, create that one-of-a-kind present and under no circumstances begin a new project for ourselves until after everything else is wrapped up and under the tree.
This is no time to be wishy-washy. No time to dither over this present or that. Just pick one and go with it. If you are seriously in doubt then include a gift receipt. Be sure to finish shopping early for the presents that must be mailed. Then that much will not available for further indecision.
We stress about finding the perfect present, but really, it matters more that we thought of the other person than what we actually bought. The cost should be within our budget. When it comes down to it, we will remember the hugs long after we have forgotten the actual present. The traditions we have created will linger in our hearts longer than that hideous hat aunt somebody regifted to you will stay in back of the hall closet.
But none of the heart-warming memories can occur until somebody chooses where and when to have the celebration. Hideous hats won’t be regifted until somebody offers up suggestions as to what they want for Christmas. Nothing can move forward until somebody slices through the indecision. So won’t somebody please pick something?[[In-content Ad]]
