Shirk leads Jay County girls

MARION — The Jay County High School girls basketball C team defeated the Marion Giants 24-14 Monday.
Shelby Shirk scored 13 points for the Patriots (2-1), who outscored Marion 15-5 in the second half. Kristin Pollitt added four points.

FR freshmen win
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s freshman boys basketball team defeated the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks 23-19 Monday.
Kent Retz powered the Indians with 12 points as they improved to 2-2. Kyle Timmerman followed with eight points.
Tribe wins pair
UNION CITY, Ohio — Allowing just two points in each of the first three quarters, the Fort Recovery Middle School seventh grade girls basketball team defeated host Mississinawa Valley 31-12 Monday.
The eighth grade team won 26-18.
Caitlyn Huelskamp put in eight points for the seventh grade Indians (3-4), who led 29-6 after three quarters. Kendra Siefring and Katie Stammen each scored seven points.
Kara Jutte totaled eight points for the FRMS eighth graders (5-2), who outscored the Blackhawks 14-4 in the second and third quarters. Haley Knapke followed with six points.

Overton leads
FORT RECOVERY — J.J. Overton led the Fort Recovery seventh grade boys basketball team as it stayed undefeated with a 48-34 victory over the Arcanum Trojans. The eighth graders lost, 30-29.
Overton racked up 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Indians (4-0). Kyle Schroer added 10 points.
Mitch Stammen finished with seven points as the eighth graders fell to 1-3. Nathan Lochtefeld scored six points.

Hogg leads in Boomer
Seth Hogg put up the top scoring total again Saturday in Boomer Basketball action at Jay Community Center.
Hogg racked up 28 points in leading his MainSource Bank kindergarten/pre-K team to a 42-22 victory over Bank of Geneva. Taylor Homan was right behind him, putting in 27 points in the fifth and sixth grade girls division.
Elizabeth Reece scored 26 points, Ethan Dirksen had 24, Ryan Schlechty scored 17 and Collin Haines finished with 16.

Patriot club wins one
The Patriot Wrestling Club finished fourth out of five teams at Sunday’s Patriot Elementary Wrestling Dual Tournament.
The Patriot club defeated South Adams 73-24, and tied Yorktown’s B team 48-48. It lost 75-9 to Yorktown’s A team and 48-29 to Adams Central.
Tony Wood, Dan Ostrowski and Bailey Ludy led the team by posting 3-1 records. Troy Frazier finished at 2-1.[[In-content Ad]]
