ANDERSON - The high school track season is still a few weeks away. But the Patriots got a jump on things Saturday.
Dexter Shreve and Brandon Reynard each turned in third place finishes Saturday as the Jay County High School track teams hosted the Patriot Invitational indoors at Anderson University. Lindsey Current turned in the top finish for the girls team in fifth place.
South Adams was also in competition, with a best finish of 10th.
Shreve had a big day in the field events for JCHS, placing third in the long jump at 20 feet, 5 inches. He was also fourth in the high jumps, finishing in a three-way tie with Anderson Highland's Tyler Moore and Carmel's Jacob Davis at 6 feet, 1 inch.
His efforts in both events qualified him for the Hoosier State Relays Saturday at Indiana University.

Erika Hunt won her heat of the 55 hurdles with a time of 9.93 and was tied for seventh overall.
For the Starfires, the best event of the day was a relay. Roman Smith, Trent Moore, Chase Moore and Chris Stutzman teamed to take 10th in the 4x200 relay in 1-minute, 38.96 seconds.
