Sign-up open for Girl Scout camp (05/26/06)

For two separate weeks this summer, girls of all ages will be gathering in Daleville for Girl Scouts of Wapehani, Inc.’s Badge Camp. Girls will be able to experience a variety of activities while forming new friendships.

Each day will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. The cost is $8 per day or $35 for the whole week. Non-Girl Scouts add $10. Registration deadlines are June 2 and July 28.

Badge Camp session I will be June 12 through 18 and badge Camp session II will be held Aug. 7 through 11.

Students participate

The annual student auditions, sponsored by the National Guild of Piano teachers, were held the first week of May at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Portland.

These students performed memorized programs before the assigned judge, Jeanne McIntosh, Germantown, Ohio. In return, they received a graded certificate and lapel pin according to the level of accomplishments.

Students of Wanda Hall, Portland, that participated were Amanda Alberson, Molly Sanchez, Lauren Haggenjos, Mizuki Saito, Austin Duncan, Rebecca Prifogle, Mary Hudson, Lee Haggenjos, Alyssa Miller, Melinda Penrod, Liza Haggenjos, Catelynn Fairchild, Scott Duncan, Katy Martyne, and Teed Finch.

Students of Rebecca Burnette were Mallory Livingston, Paige Abel, Mara Pearson, Ariel Cox, Mackenzie Dimeyer, Aaron Maystner, Jacob Schmidt, Jodi Schmidt, and Angela Beanblossom.

Students of Lisa and Kristi Heckman also took part in the auditions.

Workshop offered

Midwest Writers Workshop presents its 33rd annual workshop, July 27 through 29, at the Ball State University Alumni Center. Midwest Writers gives all writers the opportunity to improve their craft, to associate with highly credentialed professionals, and to mingle with other writers.

Scholarship applications for Midwest writers are due June 1. Awards are based on need, interest, and a writing sample. Submit to Midwest Writers Workshop, Dept. of Journalism, Ball State University, Muncie, 47306. Arts classes available

Registrations for Arts in the Parks, a free summer art program, are still being accepted at Arts Place in Portland. Registration brochures are available at Arts Place and other community locations. Individuals may mail or bring in their registration forms to Arts Place, 131 E. Walnut St., Portland.

Classes are still available at sites in Berne, Bryant, Decatur, Dunkirk, Geneva, Portland, and Redkey. Coldwater, Fort Recovery, Marion Community and St. Henry in Ohio also have openings.

Named winner

The U.S. Achievement Academy has announced that Megan Taylor, Portland, has been named a national award winner in mathematics.

A student at East Jay Middle School, she is the daughter of Dave and Melissa Taylor, Portland.

Her name will now appear in the academy’s official yearbook, which is published nationally.[[In-content Ad]]
