JV football loses
WINCHESTER — Both squads had trouble finding the end zone in regulation, but Jay County gave up a touchdown on the first play in overtime and went on to lose 6-0 to the Winchester Golden Falcons.
Winchester took the lead on a bootleg pass, and then Jay County moved the ball inside the 5-yard line on its possession. But the game ended when the Patriots failed to convert on a fourth-and-2 attempt.
Andrew Eley had 12 tackles to lead the defense for JCHS, which stopped the Golden Falcons in the red zone on three different occasions.
The Patriots were hurt by penalties. They had a 65-yard TD run by Andrew McShane erased because of a holding call and a 30-yard punt return negated as well.

Freshman football falls
Jay County fell behind by two touchdowns in the opening half and couldn’t recover in a 13-6 loss to the visiting Southern Wells Raiders.

Nick Lairson scored the only touchdown of the night for the Patriots on a 2-yard run. Michael Vanover broke a long run to set up the TD.
JCHS recovered three fumbles in the game.
