NEW CASTLE — Katie Snyder shattered her career-best all-around score as she won all four events Saturday, but the Jay County High School gymnastics team fell short in a 100.475-98.175 loss to the New Castle Trojans.
Snyder’s top score came with a 9.45 on the vault, and she also won the balance beam (9.25), floor exercise (9.2) and uneven bars (8.35). Her all-around score of 36.25 surpassed her career best by 0.825 points.
Malarie Houck was the only other Patriot to place in the top three, taking the runner-up spot on the vault with an 8.8. She added scores of 8.2 on the beam, 8.0 on the floor and 7.25 on the bars.
Brittney Brooks paced New Castle by finishing second on the beam (9.025) and third on both the floor (8.4) and bars (7.9).

Stars fall to AC
BERNE — The South Adams girls basketball team dropped its sixth straight game Saturday, falling 52-38 at home to the Adams Central Flying Jets.
Dzejna Ahmetovic was the only Starfire to reach double figures, finishing with 14 points. She added 14 rebounds for a double-double, and also blocked four shots.
Lauren Smith added seven points as South Adams fell to 3-15 overall and 0-7 in the Allen County Athletic Conference. The last win for the Starfires came Dec. 30 over Anderson prep.
Alaina Johnston added eight rebounds, and Kristen Muselman dished out four assists.
In the junior varsity game, Reba Morehouse, Mackenzie Jennings and Kelli Lehman each had three points for SAHS in a 38-14 defeat.
SA edges Raiders
BERNE —Dustin Wanner led a group of four South Adams boys basketball players who scored in double figures Friday as the Starfires overcame a 28-point effort from Clay Hamilton in a 59-57 victory over the visiting Southern Wells Raiders.
Wanner shot 9-of-13 from the field, including 4-of-5 from long distance, for SAHS (5-9, 1-4 Allen County Athletic Conference), which trailed by five at the half and four heading into the final period. Scott Hoeppner and Chase Mosser added 12 points apiece, and Matt Alig also reached double digits with 10 points.
Alig added 17 rebounds and three blocks.
Hamilton shot 60 percent on the way to his game-high scoring total and also had four assists for Southern Wells (4-9, 1-5 ACAC).

EJ sixth wins tourney
The East Jay Middle School sixth grade boys basketball team won the Boomer Invitational Saturday, topping Blackford 29-13 in the opening round and Muncie Northside 30-29 in the championship game.
Ethan Myers powered the Chiefs to the title with 24 points against Northside.
Seth Fugiett scored 10 points in the win over Blackford, and Myers followed with nine.[[In-content Ad]]
