Society to host open house (5/22/03)
Taking Note
The Jay County Historical Society will host an open house Sunday, May 25, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the museum on East Main Street, Portland.
The public is invited to come and visit the museum as it is being remodeled and offer suggestions and comments.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Jay County students, Derek R. Arnold and Robin A. Bisel, have been awarded Ball State University Alumni Association Legacy Scholarships for the 2003-04 school year.
Arnold, who will graduate June 1, was involved in F.C.A., National Honor Society, German Club, band, soccer, swimming and track. He plans to attend BSU in the fall and major in sports medicine. His parents are Steve and Bev Arnold, Portland, both graduates of BSU.
Bisel, who also will graduate June 1, was involved in student council, drama club, International Thespian Society, swing choir, and plays and musicals. She plans on attending BSU as well and major in communications. She is the daughter of Ronald and Marsha Bisel. Marsha is a 1975 graduate of BSU.
Rebecca Bisel, a Jay County High School senior who will graduate on June 1, received a scholarship of $1,000 from Burger King.
GRADUATES
Heather J. Isenhart, Portland, and Ellen J. Lemon, Portland, graduated from Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne on May 14.
Isenhart received a bachelor’s degree in mathematical sciences and Lemon received a bachelor’s degree in general studies.
Also graduating, were Jerry R. Laux, manager of manufacturing at the Portland Forge, received a bachelor’s degree in management on April 26 from Indiana Wesleyan University. He graduated with honors of summa cum laude and received the Outstanding Professional Award for exemplifying leadership, character, integrity, achievement, initiative, cooperation and enthusiasm.
His son, Ryan D. Laux graduated from Purdue University on May 17, with a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering. He was on the Dean’s List and received semester honors.[[In-content Ad]]
