Solar tour coming to county

The ASES National Solar Tour, the world's largest grassroots solar event, will be making five stops in Jay County, starting at solar heating system installer Solartech, Portland.
The tour will make stops including Solartech's office on East Main Street, the Portland Fire Department and the home of Steve and Debbie Taylor, rural Pennville.
The event, which is coordinated by the American Solar Energy Society, takes place annually during October. Last year, about 140,000 attendees visited 5,000 buildings in 3,000 communities nationwide.

Certified
The daughter of a Bryant couple was recently certified as a athletic trainer by the Board of Certification, Inc.
Brittani Owen, Muncie, was approved after completing examinations and finishing a nationally accredited athletic training program, which Owen obtained from Ball State University.
She is the daughter of Larry and Julie Miller, Bryant.
Donated
First Bank of Berne recently donated a building it purchased in 2004 to the South Adams Boys and Girls Club.
The former Berne Witness and Schindler Electric building on Main Street was given over to the Boys and Girls Club. The club expressed interest in the building in the past and First Bank of Berne decided to gift the property.
The building was originally purchased as a possible expanded location for the bank, but after some evaluation, the bank decided it would not need the extra space.
OSHA training
The Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a 10-hour voluntary compliance course on Sept. 22.
The seminar will be held at the Horizon Convention Center, 401 S. High St., Muncie, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The course will offer Occupational Health and Safety compliance training with topics including surfaces, fire protection, hazard communication, and protective equipment among others.
The training is $425 per person for members of the chamber and $550 for non-members. For more information, contact Brenda at (765) 751-9128.
ASQ meeting
The American Society for Quality Section 904 will hold a meeting at Sirloin Stockade in Muncie.
Section 904, the East Central Indiana section of the group, will host Don Overman of Overman and Associates as the featured speaker. Overman will discuss ISO 17025 Calibration in his speech.
The dinner meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the restaurant, located near McGalliard and Morrison in Muncie. For more information visit www.asq904.org.
Illegal pesticide
Several Rural King stores, including one in Muncie, were cited for selling an illegal pesticide.
Rural King was cited for selling atrazine, a weed killer, to undercover buyers without a license. The Muncie store was fined $250 by the state chemist's office.
A total of 11 stores were fined and cited for improper sale of the chemical, which can contaminate water.
Clothing store closing
Gina's, an upscale women's clothing store located in Muncie, will close after 24 years in business.
Owner Gina Haisley, 65, said she will retire and has no one to take over the business. The store has been located at McGalliard Road and Walnut Street in Muncie since 2006.
