South Adams blasts Redskins

FORT WAYNE - South Adams High School's swim teams destroyed the host North Side Redskins Thursday, with the girls team posting a 137-21 victory. The boys squad won, 126-51.

Erika Waugh and Allison Beitler each won a pair of events for the girls team while Alex Habegger picked up one victory for the boys.

Waugh won the 100 freestyle by more than 10 seconds in 59.18 seconds, and was also first in the 100 breaststroke in 1 minute, 22.68 seconds. Both of Beitler's wins were uncontested by the Redskins as she posted times of 2:41.31 in the 200 individual medley and 1:16.4 in the 100 butterfly.

Habegger led the boys team with a win in 24.1 in the 50 freestyle and 1:09.58 in the 100 backstroke.

Jansen Yoder (200 freestyle), Kara DeLong (50 freestyle), Alyssa Sharp (500 freestyle) and Alexia Fox (100 backstroke) added victories for the girls team. Other wins for the boys team came from Jordan Neal (diving), Jeremiah Heckard (200 individual medley), Jacob Werst (100 butterfly) and Caleb Wurster (100 freestyle).

Star wrestlers roll

MONROE - The South Adams wrestling team ran its record to 12-1 Thursday with a 37-19 victory over the Adams Central Flying Jets.

John Striker (119) turned in the quickest of the Starfires' three pins, finishing off Derek Roe in 2 minutes, 32 seconds. Josh Ehr (152) and Nick Taylor (171) each ended their matches in 2:45 over Taylor Isch and Lee Wefel respectively.

Gabe Sprunger (130) turned in a 13-5 major decision victory over Blake Thieme. Jordan Landers (140) defeated Nathan Bluhm 11-6.

There were several close matches, with L.J. Moser (112) coming up with a 4-2 overtime win over Nate Hess. Cody Conner (189) topped David Stoops 6-4, Jim West (HWT) beat Alex Reinhard 3-0 and Todd Batt (125) edged Tyler Rupe 7-6.

Fort 8th grade wins

NEW BREMEN, Ohio - Fort Recovery's eighth grade boys basketball team is 2-0 after defeating the New Bremen Cardinals 30-25 Thursday. The seventh graders lost 41-20.

Elijah Kahlig followed up his 26-point effort in the season-opener with 15 points for the Tribe eighth graders against New Bremen. Kyle Timmerman and Kent Retz added five points apiece.

Evan Schoen had six points for the seventh grade Indians (0-2), who trailed 16-3 after the opening quarter. Mitch Stammen added five points.
