South Adams boys defeat the Bruins (02/08/08)

HARTFORD CITY - The Starfires will again have a chance to get back to .500.

South Adams High School's boys basketball team pulled to within a game of the 50-percent mark Thursday, defeating the host Blackford Bruins 64-53.

SAHS opened the season with three straight wins, but then lost six in a row and has yet to return to .500. It has had three opportunities to do so, but suffered losses to Bluffton, Southern Wells and Woodlan. The next opportunity comes Tuesday, when the Starfires host Norwell (6-11).

Dan Bollenbacher led three South Adams players in double figures against Blackford (1-17) with 16 points. Nick Teeter added 13 points, and Will Rich scored 11.

The Starfires built a 30-23 lead at the half as they handed the Bruins their 11th straight defeat.

Jared Coons scored 11 points to pace Blackford.

South Adams dropped the junior varsity game, 58-29.

Tribe tops St. Marys

Fort Recovery Midddle School's seventh grade boys basketball team pulled away late for a 31-24 victory over St. Marys.

The Indians led by one, three and three at the respective quarter breaks before outscoring St. Marys 8-4 in the final period. St. Marys scored 14 of its points in the opening quarter.

Trent Kaiser totaled 10 points to lead Fort Recovery (4-12). Chad Schroer added nine points.[[In-content Ad]]
