South Adams clobbers Bruins (01/20/06)

Swim roundup

BERNE — With victory all but ensured, the Starfish wanted to use Thursday night’s meet as a sectional warm-up.

The result was 46 personal-best swims — 25 for the girls and 21 for the boys — and a sweep. The South Adams swim teams won every event against the Blackford Bruins, getting a 143-27 girls win and a 134-32 victory for the boys.

The Starfish girls, who are just two weeks away from sectional competition, got two wins apiece from Jessica Sharp and Margaret Beymer. Sharp’s victories came in the 50 and 100 freestyle, and Beymer reached the wall first in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke.

Also winning for the girls team were Shannon Muselman, Haleigh Lehman, Talitha Maven and Courtney Hewitt.

John Gresla, Matt Kruse and Justin Klopp each picked up a pair of wins for the South Adams boys. Gresla was first in the 100 and 200 freestyle, Kruse took the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly and Klopp picked up wins in the 50 and 500 freestyle.

Shane Swygart and Kyle Affolder earned victories for the boys team as well.

Knights blast Jay

OSSIAN — Jay County’s swim teams managed just three total wins Thursday against the Norwell Knights.

Two of those came from the girls team, which slipped to 4-8 on the year with a 116-70 loss. The boys team earned one relay win in a 132-54 defeat.

The lone individual Patriot victory came from Cori Vormohr as she took the 100 butterfly by more than five seconds in 1:05.57. She also joined Andrea Collins, Briann Saxman and Lindsey Vesperry for first place in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:55.43.

Jay County’s boys picked up their only win in the 200 freestyle relay with Joseph Vormohr, Chance Milligan, Lance VanSkyock and Cho MinGeun teaming to finish in 1:46.90.[[In-content Ad]]
