South Adams clobbers Winchester

WINCHESTER — Five athletes each won a pair of events Thursday to lead the South Adams High School track teams to victories over the Winchester Golden Falcons.
The Starfire boys took all but one event in a 107-16 win, and the girls topped Winchester 89-34.
Joel Schmidt swept the hurdles for the boys team as he took the 110-meter event in 15.7 seconds and the 300 in 43.8, and Cole Farlow posted times of 11.5 and 23.5 to win the 100 dash and 200 dash respectively. Evan Liechty added victories in the 1,600 run in 4:58 and 3,200 run in 10:31, and Logan Steiner won the 800 run in 2:12 and the high jump at 5 feet, 4 inches.
The lone double winner for the SAHS girls team was Hannah Moore with times of 5:44 in the 1,600 run and 12:21 in the 3,200 run.
Also adding victories for the Starfires were Chelsea Moore, Adrianna Teeter, Kristen Muselman, Trisha Myers, Hannah Mitchel, Leah Mitchel, Tim Lehman, Tim Horton and Sam Dellinger.

Nevil leads softball
WINCHESTER — The Starfires scored at least once in every inning Thursday on the way to a 17-4 victory over the Winchester Golden Falcons.
Brianna Nevil led the effort for South Adams, which scored three runs in the first, second and fourth innings and five in the seventh, as she went 3-for-5 with a double and a triple. She drove in four runs and scored twice.
Leadoff hitter Alaina Johnston added two hits, three runs and RBI and a stolen base, Lilly Taing had two RBIs and Lyndsey Chander scored three times.
Alyssa Bluhm picked up her first win of the year, allowing one unearned run on one hit in three innings. She struck out four batters and walked three.

Baseball falls to 1-2
NEW HAVEN — South Adams fell behind 6-0 before getting on the scoreboard in a 10-4 loss to the New Haven Bulldogs.
New Haven scored three times in the first inning to take the lead and held the Starfires scoreless through the first five. SAHS scored once in the top of the sixth inning, but the Bulldogs responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame to put the game out of reach.
Alex Augsberger took the loss, giving up six runs on eight hits and four walks in five innings.
Kyle Raugh led the offense, going 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run. Blake Fox had a hit and an RBI, and Dustin Wanner, Collin Affolder and Corey Seffernick each had a hit and a run.[[In-content Ad]]
