South Adams closes with two wins

MARION — The Starfires closed the regular season with a pair of victories.
South Adams High School’s boys swim team won every swimming event Thursday as it scored 143 points to defeat the Fort Wayne South Side Archers (112) and the Marion Giants (39).
Chris Inniger and Drew LeFever each won a pair of events for the Starfires, with Inniger taking the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 5.65 seconds, and the 500 freestyle in 5:34.52. LeFever finished first in consecutive swimming events with times of 24.52 in the 50 freestyle and 1:02.6 in the 100 butterfly.
David Steffen dominated the 100 freestyle for SAHS, winning by more than four seconds in 57.42. Jesse Sutton took the 100 backstroke in 1:05.97, Mitchel Kaverman won the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.98 and David Burson was first in the 200 individual medley in 2:23.72.
The Starfires also won all three relays.

WJMS wrestlers fall
DUNKIRK — West Jay Middle School’s wrestling team suffered a 54-16 loss Thursday to the visiting Adams Central Flying Jets.
The Chiefs picked up three victories on the evening, including a pin by Malcolm McIntire (80) in just 30 seconds. Nathan Hamilton (115) added a pin in 2 minutes, 53 seconds.
Keagan Kane (145) came up with a victory by a 10-2 major decision.
Adding exhibition victories were Logan Drumm (105), Mitchell Ferguson (110), Nick Lykins (125) and Andrew Levasseur (145).

Jay boys place 5th
OSSIAN — The Jay County middle school swim team finished fifth out of eight squads on Thursday at the Norwell Invitational.
Tayler Smeltzer and Ian Reynolds led Jay County with fourth-place finishes in the 50-yard butterfly and 100 backstroke respectively. Alex Lemaster was fifth in the 100 breaststroke and seventh in the 200 freestyle, and Cody Moser and Lee Habegger each added a top-10 finish.
Every swimmer on the team turned in a career-best time in every event.
