South Adams crushes ’Dogs (04/14/06)

BERNE — The South Adams softball team is now 2-1, with both wins coming by the mercy rule.

The Starfires picked up their second big win Thursday, clobbering the New Haven Bulldogs 11-1 in five innings.

Amber Melick paced South Adams, which broke the game open with five runs in the second inning. She went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs.

Melick was also the winning pitcher, improving to 2-0 as the only run against her was unearned. She allowed two hits and a walk while striking out four.

Ashton Morgan also had a big day for the Starfire offense, finishing with two hits, two runs and two RBIs.

Kayla Coblentz had two hits and three runs, Lacy Rhoades had two hits and two RBIs and Maranda Potts also scored twice.

Jay Co. 2-0 in OAC

MUNCIE — Extra innings have been good to Jay County.

The Patriot softball team picked up its second extra-inning win in Olympic Athletic Conference play, defeating the Muncie Southside Rebels 4-3 Thursday. Jay County is now 3-3 overall, and 2-0 in the OAC.

Consecutive hits by Morgan Locke, Shae Keller and Miranda Betz pushed a pair of runs across the plate for the Patriots in the top of the eighth inning for a 4-2 lead. Southside scored once in the bottom for the final margin.

Keller got the win, and did plenty to help herself offensively. She had a single, two runs, two stolen bases and an RBI.

On the mound she allowed three runs on six hits in eight innings. She walked three and struck out 12.

Betz finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Locke and Chelsea DeBoy each had a hit and a run.

Indians fall again

COLDWATER, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s softball team managed just three hits Thursday, dropping its sixth straight game by a 9-0 score to the Coldwater Cavaliers.

Beth May took the defeat, allowing two runs on four hits in two innings. Kinsey Wenning and Joanna Snyder also pitched for the Indians (3-7), who committed seven errors.

Ciera Rammel, Renee Evers and Jennifer Link finished with one hit apiece.

Jay JV comes up short

DECATUR — The Bellmont Braves came up with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Jay County junior varsity baseball team Thursday.

The Patriots (1-2) tied the score in the top of the seventh, but Bellmont drew a walk in the bottom. A base hit and throwing error followed to allow the Braves to score the winning run.

Justin Mann suffered the defeat, allowing three runs — two earned — on nine hits. He struck out five and walked one in seven innings.

Casey Waters finished with a hit, a run, an RBI and two stolen bases. Rhett Retter had a run and two stolen bases.

Fort JV falls to Cavs

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s junior varsity softball team got some offense, but not nearly as much as the Coldwater Cavaliers in an 18-7, six-inning loss Thursday.

Ashley Grube paced the Tribe offense by going 3-for-3 with two doubles. She added two RBIs, two stolen bases and a run.

Amy Hart was 2-for-3 with a double, two stolen bases and a run, Joanna Snyder had three hits and Becca Brunswick notched two steals. Kyle Metzger scored three runs, and Kris Willmann drove in a pair.[[In-content Ad]]
