South Adams defeats Rebels

BERNE - Two pitchers for the Starfires equaled no hits for Randolph Southern.

Ashton Morgan and Tori Brewster combined on a no-hitter Wednesday as the South Adams High School softball team clobbered the visiting Rebels 10-0 in five innings.

Morgan got the start and went the first three innings as she improved her record to 5-0. She struck out five batters and walked four.

Brewster, a freshman, struck out three batters in a pair of hitless innings.

Freshman Logan Chandler paced the South Adams offense, going 2-for-2 with three runs and a stolen base. Katrina Hawkins was 2-for-3 with a double and a run, Jana Beitler drove in two runs, and Danielle Miller scored twice.

Kysha Cox had an RBI triple and a run.

HN defeats Patriots

HUNTINGTON - The Patriots fought to the end, but couldn't overcome their sectional rival.

Jay County's softball team got a pair of hits in the seventh inning only to fall 3-1 to the Huntington North Vikings.

The only run for the Patriots came in the first inning as leadoff hitter Laura Castillo started the game with a single. Tiffany Davis added a two-out, RBI single for a 1-0 lead.

Huntington North (2-0) evened the scored in the third inning and got a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth for the final margin.

Davis took the loss, despite not allowing an earned run. She gave up four hits and five walks while striking out three batters.

Other hits for Jay County (2-3) came from Danielle Wellman, Brittany Mann and Nikka Chaney.

JC tennis loses

FRANKTON - There were three close matches Wednesday, but the Jay County girls tennis team lost 5-0 to the Frankton Eagles.

Megan Huntsman and Briann Saxman won the only set for the Patriots (1-3) at No. 1 doubles. They avoided a tie-breaker to take the opener, but fell to Carrissa Ward and Kaylie Ritenaur 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.

Kayla Martin forced a second-set tie-breaker at No. 1 singles, but lost 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) to Taylor Rhoades, and the No. 2 doubles duo of Emily Huntsman and Becky Muhlenkamp fell 7-5,6-4 against Candace McDonald and Andrea Coopess. In singles matches, Hannah McAbee lost 6-3, 6-2 to Sam Willmann at No. 2 and Mariah Clark fell 6-3, 6-0 to Kylie Graham at No. 3.

Alyssa Rigby and the team of Danielle Chenowerth and Lissa Sims picked up junior varsity wins, but Jay County lost 9-2.

JC JV falls in 5

ANDERSON - The Anderson Highland Scots racked up nine runs in the first inning on the way to beating the Jay County junior varsity baseball team 17-1 in five innings.

Ty Huntsman took the loss as he went the distance, allowing seven runs and six walks.

Justin Ellis singled and scored the only Patriot run, and Anthony Skeens had a single and an RBI. The only other JCHS hit came from Anthony Robbins.

WJMS slams Cowan

DUNKIRK - Kaelen Jewell and Dalton Eyanson each won a pair of events Wednesday to lead the West Jay Middle School boys track team to a 79-21 victory over Cowan.

Jewell led an Eagle sweep of the field events, finishing first in the discus and the long jump. Shelby Wendel won the high jump, and Tyler Back took the shot put.

Eyanson finished first in the 110-meter hurdles ahead of teammates Wendel and Kyle Murdock. He also took the top spot in the 400 dash.

Blake Crouch added a victory in the 100 dash, and Robert Pearson was first in the 1,600 run.

West Jay also took the top spot in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.[[In-content Ad]]
