South Adams downs Warriors (10/01/03)

After a loss to Class 3A No. 10 Blackford Monday, the South Adams volleyball team got back in the win column Tuesday as it topped the Woodlan Warriors 21-19, 20-22, 21-15, 21-15.

The Starfires (7-14) were carried as usual by senior Kelly Mertz. She finished with 15 kills and 26 digs.

Robyn Habegger had 19 digs in the victory, and Alyssa Miller had 30 assists. LeeAnn Snyder put away five blocks, and Renee Neuenschwander had a pair of aces.

The South Adams junior varsity team suffered a 21-12, 21-14 loss to Woodlan. The freshman team dropped a 21-13, 21-15 decision to the Warriors.

The Starfires will return home Thursday to host the Bluffton Tigers at 6 p.m.

Fort freshmen roll

Fort Recovery’s freshman volleyball team defeated the Coldwater Cavaliers in a 15-8, 1-15, 15-13 nail-biter Tuesday.

Holly Stein topped the team with six kills and 14 sets. Abby Niekamp racked up 14 points in the match, and also added 13 sets.

Brittany Brackman had seven points to go along with 10 digs. Shelby Knapke had 10 digs, and Sam Staugler and Lauren Wenning added two blocks apiece.

Tribe JH loses two

The Fort Recovery junior high volleyball teams had a rough day Tuesday taking on the Midwest Athletic Conference rival Marion Local Flyers.

The seventh grade team pushed Marion Local to three games, but still fell 15-8, 8-15, 15-12. The eighth grade team took a 15-9, 15-10 loss.

Kinsey Wenning finished with eight points, six digs and three kills for the seventh grade team (6-5). Chelsea Klenke scored 17 points and added nine sets.

Anne Koesters matched Wenning with three kills while putting down a pair of blocks. Joanna Snyder had seven sets and three digs, and Skylar Jutte also added three digs.

Ashley Grube paced the eighth grade team (6-5) with five kills and four blocks. Heather Schmackers put up nine sets to go along with three digs and two kills.

Amy Schoenlein had seven points, and Angie Wenning followed with six points and seven sets. Sarah Braun had four kills, Lindsey Fortkamp recorded five digs, and LeeAnne Tobin had two blocks.

Fort tickets

Tickets for Fort Recovery’s football game at Marion Local Friday will go on sale Thursday in the high school office.

Tickets will be available from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, and 12:30 to 2 p.m. Friday. They will also be sold in the middle school office Friday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Turkey chase

Wayne and Union County Easter Seals will host at turkey chase Saturday, Nov. 15. The event will include a 7k road race, a 2 1/2 mile historic walk, a one-mile fun run and a kiddie run.

Registration will begin at 11 a.m. on the day of the event in the Centerville High School auxiliary gym west of the football field. The kiddie run will start at noon with the fun run at 12:30 p.m. and the 7K at 1 p.m.

The entry fee for those for those who sign up by Nov. 12 is $14 for the 7K, $14 for the walk and $2 for the fun run. There is no entry fee for the kiddie run.
