South Adams extends streak

The South Adams girls golf team extended its unbeaten streak to nine matches Thursday, defeating the Eastbrook Panthers 191-236 at Golf Club of the Limberlost.
Sydney Willis shot par on three of the last four holes and added a birdie on the 406-yard, par 5 eighth to finish with a 38 to earn match medalist honors.
The sophomore home-school student has lead the Starfires in every match this season.
Alleigh Wingler and Kellie Lehman shot even on two holes to score 47 and 52 respectively for the Starfires (9-0), and Jaci Gorrell posted a 54 to close out the top four for South Adams.
Samantha Simison led the Panthers with a 55.
The Starfires will put their perfect record on the line at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday against Bluffton.

Starfire spikers fall
DECATUR — The Class 3A No. 3 Bellmont Squaws defeated the South Adams volleyball team in straight games Thursday, 25-10, 25-7, 25-19.
Senior middle hitter Alyssa Bluhm led the Starfires (4-5) with nine assists and seven kills. Lauren Smith led South Adams with 14 digs, while Cady Farlow and Bluhm followed behind her with eight digs each.
Emma Rosswurm added seven assists.
Bellmont’s junior varsity team limited the South Adams to only 21 total points, defeating the visiting Starfires 25-12, 25-9.
Abby Myers and Kylie Grabau led South Adams with three kills each, and Casi Evans added four assists for the Starfires.

Johnston scores, saves in win
BERNE — Junior goalkeeper Alaina Johnston made two crucial saves and scored a shootout goal to lift the South Adams girls soccer team to a 2-1 victory Thursday over the Allen County Athletic Conference rival Garrett Railroaders.

Having already faced 21 shots in regulation, Johnston made a desperation fingertip save to force the 1-1 game into overtime.
Johnston scored the Starfires’ third shootout goal, and after Garrett’s No. 4 shooter knotted it at 3-3, Johnston made a diving save to deny the No. 5 Garrett shooter to setting up Sharon Balsiger to give South Adams a chance at the win.
Balsiger’s shot found netting to give South Adams (1-4) its first win of the season.
Virginia Lagos netted the only regulation goal for South Adams, and Riley Liechty, Maddie Morgan and Michaela Rupp added shootout goals.

Fort golfers win
CELINA, Ohio — Elijah Kahlig shot par on four of the final five holes to lead the Fort Recovery boys golf team to a 174-222 victory Thursday over Midwest Athletic Conference opponent St. John’s at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
Kahlig’s round of 40 led a Tribe squad for which all turned in scorecards in the 40s against the Blue Jays. Chase Bruns (41), Kent Retz (46) and Derek Backs (47) made up the Tribe’s top four golfers.
T.J. Hoerston led the Blue Jays with a 46.
The Indians return to the links at 4:30 p.m. Thursday against Marion Local.

FR wins 2nd straight
DELPHOS, Ohio — The Fort Recovery volleyball team won its second straight match Thursday, defeating MAC foe St. John’s 25-23, 25-21, 25-23.
Tori Lennartz and Kendra Siefring led Tribe squad with 10 and nine kills respectively as the Indians compiled a 34.7 hitting percentage.
Cassidy Rammel led the Indians (3-2) with 19 assists while Sierra Pugh added 16. Defensively, Lennartz had eight digs and Caley Schoenherr added seven.[[In-content Ad]]
