South Adams falls to Flying Jets

BERNE — Offense was hard to come by for the Starfires on Saturday as they slipped back to .500.
The South Adams High School softball team managed just three hits, falling 7-0 to the visiting Adams Central Flying Jets.
Alyssa Bluhm took the loss against Adams Central, which scored five times in the second inning. Only one of the six runs against her was earned as she gave up five hits and three walks while striking out six batters in six innings.
Loren Sparks gave up one unearned run on two hits in one inning of relief.
Maddie Morgan, Rachel Hirschy and Bluhm had one hit apiece for the Starfires (2-2).
Bess Fiechter paced Adams Central with a single, two RBIs and a run.

JC golfers 12th
YORKTOWN — Jay County’s boys golf team opened its season with a score of 401 for a 12th-place finish at the 15-team Yorktown Invitational at The Players Club.
The Patriots were one stroke behind 11th-place New Palestine and eight ahead of 13th-place Monroe Central. Yorktown won the event by 10 strokes over Connersville with a 318.
Evan Mathias set the pace for the Patriots as he shot an 84. Keegan Bronnenberg, a Muncie Central freshman, won the tournament by one stroke over Yorktown’s Alex Highly and Cathedral’s Andrew Derringer.
Mitchel Rigby, Jay County’s lone senior, followed Mathias with a 94. Zach Fullenkamp added a 104, and Graham Haines rounded out the team score with a 119. Sok Vormohr posted a 147.


Tribe softball falls
NEW PARIS, Ohio — The Fort Recovery softball team dropped a doubleheader Saturday, falling 8-2 and 1-0 to the National Trail Blazers.
The Indians (1-5) scored twice in the first inning of the opening game, but never got on the board again as they were limited to seven hits.
Ashley Homan was the losing pitching in both games, although the only run against her in the second was unearned. She gave up eight runs — six earned — on 12 hits and a walk while striking out eight in the opener.
Jackie Fullenkamp totaled three hits for Fort Recovery and also scored a run in the first game. Janelle Schwieterman had two hits, Homan singled and scored a run and Haley Knapke had an RBI.

Sutter leads drivers
MONTPELIER — Ryan Sutter turned in the top effort among local drivers during the first weekend of racing at Montpelier Motor Speedway.
Sutter, Fort Recovery, placed eighth Saturday in the UMP Modifieds race. He was 12th in Friday’s event.
Cody Timmerman, also of Fort Recovery, turned in a couple of top-10 efforts, including a ninth-place effort in Friday’s Super Streets race. He was also 10th in Saturday’s race, one place behind fellow Fort Recovery driver Curtis Heiser.
Sean Torre of Portland finished 17th in the Thunder Cars event Saturday.[[In-content Ad]]
