South Adams falls to Knights (02/18/2009)

OSSIAN - The South Adams High School boys basketball team trailed by double digits for most of the second half Tuesday in a 66-50 loss to the host Norwell Knights.

The Starfires (7-10), who trailed by 11 at halftime, scored the first points of the second half on a Nick Teeter 3-pointer. But Brandon Gerber of Norwell responded with a triple of his own one minute later and SAHS never got within single digits again.

Teeter finished with 17 points for South Adams as all five of his made field goals came from 3-point range. Chris Stutzman and Caleb Armenta each added 10 points.

Klay Fiechter shot 9-of-14 for 19 points to lead the Knights (7-9). Jake Shapely and Kyle Johnloz joined him in double figures with 11 and 10 respectively.

In junior varsity action, Taylor Smith scored 17 points for the Starfires in a 57-38 loss to Norwell.

Eagles defeat EJ

DUNKIRK - James Williams carried the West Jay Middle School sixth grade boys basketball team to a 33-28 victory Tuesday over visiting East Jay.

Williams racked up 23 points to pace the Eagles. Nate Brackman added four points and nine rebounds.

Justin Dirksen led the Chiefs with seven points. Garrett Blackford followed with six points.

Levi Stant had four points as East Jay won the B team game 15-7.

Indians advance

FORT RECOVERY - The Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade girls basketball team advanced to the finals of the Midwest Athletic Conference tournament Tuesday with a 29-24 victory over the Marion Local Flyers.

Chelsea Pottkotter led the Tribe in the semifinal round with 10 points. Kelsey Fiely added seven points as the team ran its record to 12-2.

The Indians will play in the championship game against Minster at Marion Local Saturday at 11:15 a.m.

Louck leads WJ

GASTON - All of the West Jay Middle School wrestling team's seven pins Tuesday came in less than one minute as the Eagles defeated Wes-Del 60-34.

Chase Louck was the quickest of the bunch as he finished the 115-pound match in just 10 seconds. Lucas Wiemer (135) added a pin in 21 seconds, and Carrolton Fischer (120) ended his match in just 26 seconds.

Other pins came from Jesse Finnerty (100), Raistlin Rice (110), Justin Love (125) and Dylan Harris (145).

WJ falls to Delta

MUNCIE - West Jay Middle School's sixth grade girls basketball team lost 28-8 Tuesday to host Delta.

Dakota Chamber scored six points to lead the Eagles. Emily Back had the other two points.

In the B team game, Mariah Schaadt, Tyra Westlake and Ashley Lowe each had four points to lead West Jay to a 21-19 win.[[In-content Ad]]
