South Adams finishes at No. 17

Heading into Saturday’s sectional tournament, the Starfires are ranked as one of the best teams in the state.
The South Adams High School wrestling team jumped two spots in the final Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association poll released Monday to earn the No. 17 ranking.
The Starfires finished the regular season 27-0 with wins at the Homestead Super Duals, Spencer Haworth Invitational, East Central Indiana Classic and Tri Invitational. They also won the Allen County Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles.
Senior Josh Ehr leads the team with a 34-0 record and is ranked second in the state at 152 pounds. Todd Batt, a junior, ranks 13th in the state at 125 pounds with his 33-1 record.
SAHS will compete at the Jay County sectional Saturday and hopes to push 20-time defending champion Bellmont, which is ranked ninth in the state.

SA splits with Delta
BERNE — Erika Waugh’s pair of wins led the South Adams girls swim team to a 145-140 victory Tuesday over Delta. Fort Recovery finished with six points.
Delta won the boys competition with 146.5 points. The Starfires were second with 125, and Fort Recovery scored 36.5.
Waugh dominated the long-distance events for South Adams, taking the girls 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 3.93 seconds and the 500 freestyle at 5:37.44. Caleb Wurster led the Starfire boys by winning the same events with times of 2:00.43 and 5:29.53.
Marshall Hull had the best finish for Fort Recovery, taking third in the 100 backstroke in 1:08.51. Kelly Hull was fifth in both the girls 50 and 200 freestyle.
Other victories for SAHS came from Michaela Rupp and Kara DeLong for the girls, and Josh Armenta and Joel Schmidt for the boys.


Starfire girls fall
BERNE — The South Adams girls basketball team dropped its 14th straight game Thursday, 60-29 to the visiting Blackhawk Christian Braves.
Taylor Farlow had 10 points for the Starfires (1-14), who turned in their highest scoring total of the season. Their previous high was 26 in a 10-point loss to Muncie Burris.
Lyndsey Chandler and Alyssa Bluhm each added six points.
Allison Kauffman of the Braves outscored SAHS by herself as she hit 20-of-24 free throws on the way to a 31-point effort.

Rangers tops Fort
NEW KNOXVILLE, Ohio — Fort Recovery Middle School’s seventh grade girls basketball team fell short in a 33-27 loss Tuesday to the New Knoxville Rangers. The eighth grade team also lost, 41-33.
Kirsten Jutte had seven points for the seventh grade team, which fell to 5-8. Caitlyn Huelskamp added six points.
Tori Lennartz and Kara Jutte each tallied 12 points to lead the eighth grade Indians, who are now 7-6.[[In-content Ad]]
