South Adams golfers 5th in ACAC (05/21/07)

FORT WAYNE - The South Adams boys golf team finished in the middle of the pack Saturday.
The Starfires scored a 364 to finish fifth out of the eight teams in the Allen County Athletic Conference meet held at Brookwood Golf Club. Leo won at 318, and Garrett (320) was second.
Phil Goodwin posted the top score for South Adams with an 83. Jay Schwartz followed with an 88.
Randy Potts was the No. 3 scorer for the Starfires at 95, and Thurman Pursely finished off the team score at 98. Landyn Waugh shot a 100.
Jay falls in finale
RICHMOND - Jay County's softball team suffered a 3-0 loss Saturday to the Richmond Red Devils, but can still celebrate their best regular season in ages.
The Patriots finished the 2007 regular season at 15-9. They were 13-12 a year ago, and had not won double-digit games prior to that since 2001.
Richmond limited Jay County to just four hits, two of which came from freshman Pazia Speed. Junior Amber Edmundson and freshman Lindsey Wellman added one hit apiece.
Edmundson took the loss as the Red Devils opened the game by scoring two unearned runs in the first inning. She gave up just a single earned run on four hits and one walk while striking out seven.
Meiring to Marietta
MARIETTA, Ohio - Marietta College has turned to a Fort Recovery graduate to pilot its women's basketball program.
Jill Meiring was named the head coach of the Pioneers Thursday, taking over for Ted Eskildsen. Meiring was previously the assistant coach for the Transylvania University women's basketball team, and spent a portion of the 2005-06 season as the interim head coach. She was also the head field hockey coach at Transylvania.
A 1997 FRHS graduate, she went on to be a four-year starter for the Denison College women's basketball team and a four-year team captain for the softball team. She graduated from Denison in 2001, and earned her master's degree in physical education from Eastern Kentucky in 2006.[[In-content Ad]]
