South Adams picks up fourth victory (04/19/05)

Local roundup

KOKOMO — Just seven games into the 2005 season, the Starfires have already matched last year’s win total.

The South Adams softball team improved to 4-3 Monday with a 4-2 victory over the Northwestern Tigers. The team was 4-17 a year ago.

Leadoff hitter Kindle Inniger led the charge, going 3-for-4 as the Starfires built a 4-0 lead by scoring once in the first inning, twice in the fourth and once in the fifth. She had a double, two RBIs, a run and a stolen base.

Amber Melick and Lacy Rhoades each added two hits. Rhoades also scored a run, and Brooke Fox had an RBI.

Melick, who has earned all of the South Adams wins this year, did not allow an earned run as she gave up seven hits in seven innings. She struck out three and walked one.

Northwestern (5-3) got its two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

MUNCIE — The Patriots experienced something for the first time in more than a year Monday. They’d rather not do it again.

Jay County’s boys golf team, which was undefeated last year, fell in dual-meet action to the Delta Eagles 146-157.

ANDERSON — Two hits were all the Jay County softball team (1-6) could muster as it lost 10-0 in six innings to the Anderson Highland Scots Monday.

Brittany Logue took the loss as Highland scored three runs in the third inning, one in the fourth and six in the sixth to finish the game early. Three of the runs were unearned as she allowed 13 hits and four walks.

Trisha Champ and Amber Champ, the No. 1 and 2 hitters, accounted for all of the Patriot offense, each garnering one hit and one steal.
