South Adams softball gets third straight victory (04/15/05)

South Adams roundup

NEW HAVEN — So much for that learning curve.

South Adams softball coach Jeff Bradtmiller said before the season he wasn’t sure how long it would take his young team — with five freshmen and sophomores in the starting lineup — to adjust to the varsity level. It seems they didn’t need any adjustment time at all.

The Starfires improved to 3-0 Thursday thanks to an eight-run fourth inning which led to a 10-5 victory over the New Haven Bulldogs. The three wins is already just one short of their total for the entire 2004 season.

Lead-off hitter Kindle Inniger set the tone as she was one of four South Adams players with two hits. She scored three runs and stole two bases.

Jordan Lehman had two hits, two RBIs and a run. Kayla Coblentz and Brooke Fox added two hits apiece, and Lacy Rhoades drove in two runs.

Freshman Amber Melick improved to 3-0 as she allowed five runs — three earned — on nine hits. She struck out three batters.

Baseball falls to Knights

BERNE — South Adams’ baseball team slipped to 1-4 Thursday with an 11-1 loss to the Fort Wayne Bishop Luers Knights.

The Knights scored two runs in each of the first two innings and added three in the third to take control.

South Adams got its only tally in the fifth inning in the defeat.

Peter Jansson took the loss, allowing seven runs — six earned — on eight hits in 31/3 innings. He walked seven batters and struck out three.

Mike Farris garnered two of the Starfires’ five hits and scored their only run. Rich Kaup had the lone RBI.[[In-content Ad]]
