South Adams swimmers win

FORT WAYNE — A win in the final event lifted the South Adams High School boys swim team to an 85-82 victory Thursday over the Fort Wayne North Side Redskins. The girls team rolled to a 115-55 victory.
Cory Sank, Chris Inniger, Josh Dynes and Jacob Werst combined to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3 minutes, 55.94 seconds for the winning margin. Werst added individual wins in the 200 individual medley in 2:27.63 and the 10 butterfly in 1:04.64.
Freshman Kara DeLong powered the Starfire girls as she led a sweep of the 200 freestyle in 2:13.49 ahead of Brandi Robinson and Sylvia Marbach and finished first in front of Marbach in the 500 freestyle in 6:05.33. Sophomore Michaela Rupp and junior Kara DeLong also added two wins apiece.
Individual victories came from Ellie Kaverman and Maddie Kloepper for the girls and Dynes, Sank, Shad Swygart and Mitchell Kaverman for the boys.

SAHS wrestlers fall
MONROE — The Starfires’ first loss of the season came against their closest rival Thursday as they fell 36-28 to the host Adams Central Flying Jets.
South Adams (11-1) won four of the final six matches with pins, but couldn’t overcome a 27-4 deficit.
Mason Morningstar (285) led the Starfires with a pin of Taylon Elzey in 2 minutes, 28 seconds. Other pins from Sawyer Miller (106) in the second period and L.J. Moser (113) and Klayton Hinshaw (182) in the third.
Todd Batt (138) added a 12-4 decision over Luke Liter.
Derek Roe (132), who is ranked fifth in the state, and Zeke Schultz (152) each had first-period pins for Adams Central.

Tribe wins pair
NEW BREMEN, Ohio — Fort Recovery Middle School’s eighth grade boys basketball team rolled to 2-0 Thursday with a 57-27 victory over the New Bremen Cardinals. The seventh graders won 29-22.
Jackson Hobbs racked up 17 points to lead the eighth grade Indians, and Kyle Schroer joined him in double figures with 12. J.J. Overton added eight points.
Caleb Martin scored 10 points as the FRMS seventh graders (1-1) earned their first win. Tom Koester followed with seven points.[[In-content Ad]]
