South Adams tops Patriots (09/11/03)

The Jay County boys tennis team couldn’t keep up with South Adams Wednesday, falling to a 3-2 loss to the Starfires.

The Patriots (4-5) won the top two singles matches, but couldn’t pull off the sweep.

At No. 3 singles, Derek Powell took the first game against Brandon Liechty 6-2. However, Liechty rallied to force a third set and took a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory.

In other singles matches Kurtis Hess defeated Eric Martin 6-1, 6-2, and Kentaro Ohgo won his first match as a Patriot as he got by Tony Van Gelder 6-1, 7-5.

Doubles action saw Randy Evans and Tyler Ribgy drop to Carson Sprunger and Thomas LeMaster 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot. Chip Feazell and Adam Paxson lost at No. 2 to Lee Hoeppner and Bret Zurcher 6-1, 7-5.

Jay County’s junior varsity team lost for just the second time this season by a score of 4-1.

Wil Goodrich had the lone win for the Patriots (7-2), topping Carter Sprunger 8-2.

At No. 2 singles Travis Smith lost to Jonah Sonentag 8-4, and Jason Crouch dropped to Cody Ross at No. 3 singles 8-3.

Jeff Sims and Matthew Peterson teamed at No. 1 doubles for an 8-2 loss against Jay Schwagg and Travis Gebel. The No. 2 doubles team of Chad Miller and Adam Arnold fell to Brent Bauman and Dustin Cresman 8-4.

Jay County will play again today at Bluffton at 4:30 p.m.

Fort tickets

Tickets for Fort Recovery’s football game Friday night at Versailles are on sale.

Tickets will be sold in the high school office today until from 4 p.m. and Friday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. They will also be available in the middle school office Friday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Pre-sale tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults. All tickets at the gate will be $5.

Fort 500 this weekend

The Fort 500 Snowmobile Grass Drags will be held this weekend at Fort Recovery’s Ambassador Park.

The Saturday session will begin with testing at noon, and racing will start at 1 p.m. Testing Sunday will start at 10 a.m. with racing to begin at noon.

General admission is $5, and there is no entrance fee for children 10-and-younger.[[In-content Ad]]
