South Adams tops Union City (10/12/05)

BERNE — The Starfires bounced back from a rough loss to Fort Wayne Bishop Luers Monday to get their seventh win of the season.

The South Adams volleyball team rolled over the Union City Indians in three games Tuesday, winning 25-14, 25-14, 25-22.

Senior Renee Neuenschwander powered her team to victory, leading the way with five digs and two blocks. She also had six kills.

Andrea Moser had six kills and two blocks, and Maranda Potts and Amber Melick each had four digs. Brooke Fox finished with nine kills.

Alyssa Miller put up 20 assists, and Sami Keen and Brandi Craig each notched three aces.

South Adams also won the junior varsity match, 20-25, 25-23, 15-7.

Tigers top Jay Co.

Jay County’s volleyball team staved off the Tigers in the third game, but were unable to continue the comeback as the Patriots fell 25-6, 25-12, 21-25, 25-22 to Bluffton Tuesday.

Theresa Reinhart has double-digit kills for Jay County as she finished with 10. She also led the team with four aces as it dropped to 5-23.

Erica Clark had 24 assists, two aces and two blocks, and Markie Runyon notched eight kills and four blocks. Ashley Horn and Shelby Rines each had three digs.

Wehrkamp caps season

ARLINGTON, Ohio — Fort Recovery senior Jill Wehrkamp competed at the regional tournament at Sycamore Springs Golf Course Tuesday, but was not able to qualify for the state tournament. She ended her career by shooting a 103.

Jay JV falls to Bluffton

The Jay County junior varsity volleyball team struggled to get in a rhythm Tuesday, falling 25-14, 25-15 to the Bluffton Tigers.

Julie Alig had a team-high three saves for the Patriots, and Stephanie Wellman had two assists.

Lindsay Current and Shanda Morningstar each had one kill and one block, and Maria Miller and Sarah Westgerdes each had one dig and one block.

Spartans top Patriot JV

CONNERSVILLE — Jay County’s junior varsity football team scored twice in the opening quarter, but could not hold on in a 14-13 loss to the Connersville Spartans Monday.

The Patriots (4-3) got on the board less than two minutes into the game when quarterback Aaron Daniels connected with Jason Rodeffer on a 60-yard touchdown pass. Rodeffer blocked a punt on Connersville’s next possession leading to a Sam Lyons 5-yard scoring run, but the Spartans rallied with a pair of touchdowns in the second half.[[In-content Ad]]
