PONETO — The Starfires played a solid first quarter, but could not sustain the effort.

South Adams’ girls basketball team held a one-point lead after eight minutes, but got outscored 34-13 in the middle quarters in a 58-41 loss to the Southern Wells Raiders Friday night. It marked the eighth straight defeat for the Starfires, who are now 1-10 overall and 0-5 in the Allen County Athletic Conference.

Kayla Coblentz was the lone South Adams player in double figures, scoring 11 points. She was followed by Katie Nichols and Holly Kaup with seven points apiece as the team shot 11-of-33 (33 percent) from the field.

Coblentz also had five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Nichols finished with five rebounds.

Heather Roush led all scorers with 15 points for Southern Wells. Courtney Kisner added 12 points.

South Adams also lost the junior varsity game 38-12 with Ashton Morgan scoring five points.

Lehman tops Indians

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery couldn’t keep up with the Sidney Lehman Catholic Cavaliers Saturday as its freshman boys basketball team suffered a 51-36 defeat.

Brent Faller scored 10 points to lead the Indians, who trailed by two after the first period, six at halftime and nine after three quarters. Frank Thien posted nine points, and Tom Will had eight points and six rebounds.[[In-content Ad]]
