The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive at Asbury United Methodist Church, 204 E. Arch St., Portland, Friday, April 28 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
At this site, donors with certain blood types may be encouraged to participate in an advanced type of donation known as double red blood cell donation, in which twice the normal amount of blood in harvested. This helps ease shortages of certain blood types and allows regular donors to take sixteen weeks off before their next donation, rather than the standard eight weeks.
Donors must be at least 110 pounds, be in good general health and present positive identification. For more information call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE.
Minnetrista events
Amish Life Across North America, a colorful exhibit about Amish life, will be displayed at Minnetrista Cultural Center in Muncie beginning April 29 and continuing through September.
The display will provide an inside view of Amish society using photographs, Amish and Mennonite quilts, clothing, tools, toys and dolls.
Minnetrista is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Admission for children and students is $4; $6 for seniors and $7 for adults. For more information, call (765) 282-4848 or visit www.minnetrista.net.
Scholarships available
Two scholarships are available for Adams and Wells counties residents pursuing a career in the education profession.
The K. Robert Ehrman Scholarship Program is available to students at the undergraduate or postgraduate level. Applicants must have completed at least two years of undergraduate work. Priority will be given to students planning to teach instrumental music, followed by those who plan to teach at the elementary or secondary level.
The Mary V. Reinhard Scholarship Program is intended for juniors and seniors in college who have declared an elementary or secondary education major and plan to enter the teaching profession.
Both awards are to be used for one year of full time study at any accredited post-secondary institution in the United States.
Applicants must be legal resident of Adams or Wells counties and have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
Applications can be obtained at libraries in Bluffton, Ossian, Geneva, Berne and Decatur, at the Adams County Community Foundation or by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to The Wells County Foundation, Inc., 109 N. Scott St., Bluffton, IN 46714.
All materials are due back to the foundation by June 2. For more information call (260) 824-8620.
Leadership program
The new World Leadership program at Huntington University will host a seminar, “Facilitating Flow Within a Song Set in Worship” Tuesday, April 25 at 4:30 p.m.
The workshop will be led by Bob Myers, who will discuss practical questions involved in the spiritual dynamics of worship and specific musical devices that help facilitate flow.
The seminar will take place in room 150 of the Merillat Centre for the Arts at Huntington University and is free and open to the public.

Gaming graduate
Kyle Thomas Wentz recently graduated from the Indiana Gaming Academy. He and 17 classmates were chosen from among 250 applicants to attend the first Gaming Academy. The graduates will then replace state police on gambling boats.
Wentz is a 1999 graduate of Jay County High School and a 2005 graduate of Ball State University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and criminology. He is the son of Tom and Beverly Wentz.
Watercolor workshop
The Art Association of Randolph County will offer a one-day experimental watercolors workshop taught by Kentucky artist Sue St. John on Saturday, May 6 at the Railroad arts Depot in Union City.
The cost is $45 for nonmembers and $40 for members. Many supplies will be furnished, but participants should bring their own brushes and watercolors.
