Spelling bee winners announced (02/10/06)

Winner of the regional spelling bee at Redkey Elementary School was Dillon Kimble. He is a fourth grader and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Estep.

The alternate was Brooke Fraley, a fifth grader and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Fraley.

The winner at Pennville Elementary School was Alexis Penrod and the alternate was Robert Moles. Both are fifth grade students.

Winning at Judge Haynes Elementary School was Quinton Donnelly. A fourth grade student, he is the son of Bleu Donnelly.

Lucas Boyer, fifth grade, was the alternate. His parents are Frank and Carla Boyer.

The winner at East Elementary School was Scott Schwieterman. He is in fifth grade and is the son of Dennis and Karen Schwieterman.

The runner-up was Kaitlyn Smith, a fifth grader and the daughter of Angela Harrell.

Dean’s list

Julie Sours, has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester of 2005 at Indiana University, Bloomington. She is the daughter of Bob and Laura Sours, Portland.

Ball State University named its dean’s list for the fall semester of 2005.

From Geneva were Scott Amstutz, Jamie Faller and Casey Gentis.

From Bryant were Adam Homan, David Knoth, Brittany Pinkerton and Vanessa Wilkins.

From Dunkirk were Corinne Erwin, Grace Foglesong, Ryan Hornbaker, Kendra Van Skyock, Lonnie Ward, Hillary Warner, Ryan Wenger and Nicole Whitesell.

From Portland were Kristi Antrim, Erin Arnold, Austin Chapman, Jaime Comstock, Ashley DeWitt, Nicholas Ehrhart, Michelle Newton, Jesse Shawver, Cara Shreeve, Hanna Spahr, Cassandra Stewart, Julia Tarr, Howard Wickelman and Shanna Young.

Emily Peterson, Dunkirk, has made the dean’s list for the fall semester of 2005 at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky.

Graduate

Brady Mills Johnson, Portland, recently graduated at mid-year commencement exercises at Vincennes University. He earned an AAS in agribusiness.

To host program

The Cancer Center at Ball Memorial Hospital will host, “Look Good...Feel Better,” a program for women in the community undergoing cancer treatment. The program sessions will be held the third Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon beginning Feb. 15.

Patients must register to attend by calling the American Cancer Society at (765) 642-6603. The program will be held at The Cancer Center at Ball Memorial Hospital.

The program teaches female cancer patients about beauty techniques to help restore their appearance and self-image during chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
