Phyllis Ford of Portland was presented with the Staff Spotlight Award from the school board of the Fort Wayne Community School Corporation on Monday evening. Ford is a kindergarten teacher at Nebraska Elementary School in Fort Wayne.
The award is given each month to a teacher in the Fort Wayne Community School Corporation, and to be eligible they must be nominated by the principal of their school. Eligibility is also based on the teacher’s service to the community and the school corporation.
Ford has been teaching in Fort Wayne for 38 years. She confesses she is old enough to retire, but her love for children won’t let her.
“Learning is an amazing opportunity. We take kids where we get them and move ahead,” she said.
On being selected for the award, Ford said, “I was very humbled, and I was extremely proud. It was truly an honor.”
She also was scheduled to be featured on Fort Wayne TV station WPTA sometime this week.
