Sprunger leads South Adams (12/15/06)

South Adams roundup

BLUFFTON - South Adams was one of three teams to finish 2-1 Thursday in a competitive evening of wrestling.

Bluffton hosted the Starfires, Leo and Heritage, with the first three schools on that list all finishing at 2-1. South Adams defeated the host Tigers 45-30 and Heritage 50-27, but lost to Leo 48-27.

Four South Adams wrestlers were perfect on the evening with none more impressive than Chase Sprunger. The 125-pounder won all three of his matches with pins, two of which came late in the third period and the other in just 43 seconds over Leo's Gavin Saxer.

Also finishing 3-0 for the Starfires were Braden Baer (112), Colt Gentis (119) and Dustin Ehr (145/152), who had two pins in his three victories.

Adding 2-1 marks were Jim Marbach (130), Juan Tenorio (171), Josh Kimberlin (189) and Jackson West (215).

Stars' streak ends

OSSIAN - The South Adams swim team had its first double loss of the season Thursday with the boys falling 96-83 to the Norwell Knights and the girls losing by a 92-84 score.

The defeat ended the Starfire boys team's five-meet win streak to open the season. It was just the second setback for the girls, who are now 7-2.

South Adams' boys won seven of 13 events - John Gresla, Justin Klopp and Alex Habegger contributed two victories apiece - but still fell short in the final tally. Gresla took the 200- and 500-yard freestyle, Klopp won the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle and Habegger was first in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke. The trio also teamed with Kyle Affolder for first place in the 200 freestyle relay.

Norwell swept the victories on the girls side. Picking up two runner-up finishes each for the Starfires were Jessica Sharp, Channing Yoder and Lauren Rich.[[In-content Ad]]
