Squaws shut out Jay County (09/15/05)

Local roundup

DECATUR — The Patriots held tough for a half, but could not keep up with the home team. Jay County’s girls soccer team managed just two shots on goal Wednesday as it fell to the Bellmont Squaws 5-0.

Bellmont scored just once on a fluke goal in the first half.

About nine minutes into the game a Patriot defender tried to clear the ball, but it deflected off one of the Squaws and back into the goal for a 1-0 lead. JCHS goalie Abby Loy, who finished with 21 saves, stopped all nine Bellmont shots before the intermission.

However, the Squaws wasted no time in the second half, getting their first score in just 46 seconds.

They took 17 shots on goal after the break, converting three more in the victory. Amy Butcher took nine shots, connecting twice, and Kelsey Sanderson had four shots and one score.

Jay County, which fell back to .500 at 3-3-2, got its lone shots on goal from Saffron Redwine and Caitlin Dunn.
