Squaws stop Jay County (10/15/04)

DECATUR — The Patriots had a good opening act, but weren’t able to sustain it. After winning game one Thursday, the Jay County volleyball team dropped the next three in a 23-25, 25-14, 25-16, 25-23 loss to the Bellmont Squaws.

Kelly Sautbine had team highs of 22 digs and 10 kills for the Patriots. She also scored two points.

Erin St. Myers also had 10 kills, and Ashley Overla had eight kills. Janae Roush posted 16 digs and eight points.

Leah Gasparovic finished with 13 assists, and Jamie Walker scored 11 points.

Jay County will play its final regular-season matches Saturday at the Marion Invitational beginning at 9:45 a.m.

In junior varsity action Thursday the Patriots dropped by a 25-18, 25-21 score. The freshman team also lost, 25-18, 25-8.

Shelby Rines led the Jay County JV team with 12 digs and four kills. She also had an ace.

Mary Spencer had eight digs and two kills, Sharon Dirksen finished with four assists and two points, and Maria Miller had two points and one block. Carissa Wilkens had three points, and Ashley Horn added two.

The freshman team got four points and two kills from Brittany O’Dell. Shanda Morningstar also had two kills.

Sarah Mescher, Stephanie Wellman and Jessica Murdock finished with three points apiece.

Starfire spikers swept

HUNTINGTON — None of the games were blowouts, but none of them were wins for the South Adams volleyball team either as it lost by a 25-20, 25-18, 25-22 score to the Huntington North Vikings Thursday.

The Starfires got team highs of 13 digs and nine kills from senior Robyn Habegger. Junior Renee Neuenschwander added seven digs, six kills and three aces.

Andrea Moser had five kills and five blocks, and Alyssa Miller had 25 assists. Kara Ross notched seven blocks, and Lacey Rhoades added two aces.[[In-content Ad]]
