Squeeze lifts Scots over JC (04/21/05)

ANDERSON — A couple of seventh-inning runs had the Patriots in the lead. But the Anderson Highland Scots still had something up their sleeve.

Highland scored twice in the bottom of the seventh, getting the winning run on a suicide squeeze play to defeat the Jay County baseball team 6-5 Wednesday.

Justin Mann took the loss for the Patriots, who fell to 4-4. He gave up six runs on six hits in seven innings while striking out six and walking five.

Tony McCowan hit a home run, and Travis Towell went 3-for-3 with a triple and a pair of doubles. Tom McCowan and Aaron Bogenschutz each added two hits.

Jay JV softball rolls

MUNCIE — Jay County’s junior varsity softball team improved to 3-1 Tuesday as it defeated the Muncie Central Bearcats 11-5.

Lauren Edmundson notched a pair of hits in the victory, including a triple. She also scored three runs.

Leah Murray had a double and three RBIs, and Ashley Bunch and Vicky Taylor each added two runs and two RBIs. Candace Betz scored a pair of runs.

Amanda Lowe improved to 2-0 with the victory, allowing five runs — two earned — on five hits. She struck out two and walked four.

Soccer clinic set

Jay County High School will host a soccer clinic for all girls interested in playing for the JCHS team this fall.

The clinic, which is conducted by Bethel College player Zach Sipe, will be June 6 through 10 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. The cost of the clinic is $40.
