Starfire boys win sectional

DECATUR — The South Adams High School boys cross country team had all five runners place in the top 10, including four of the top five spots, as the Starfires won Sectional 13 at Bellmont on Tuesday.
It was the second straight sectional title for South Adams, which finished with 23 points. The host Braves were second with 72, and Norwell was third with 75. Bluffton placed fourth with 116 points and New Haven fifth with 124.
The Starfire girls placed fifth, five points ahead of Fort Wayne South Side. Bellmont won the race, with Norwell, Canterbury and New Haven placing ahead of South Adams.
Both Starfire teams advance to the Marion regional Saturday.
South Adams’ Sawyer Miller was the overall winner for the boys, crossing the finish line in 16 minutes, 21 seconds.
Bailey McIntire (16:44), Brody Shane (17:05) and Daniel Velasco (17:21) finished third, fourth and fifth respectively for the Starfires, while Daniel Steffen placed 10th in 17:38.
Kara Seffernick led the Starfire girls with a 10th-place finish in 20:49. Following her were Lily Shane (22:26 – 25th), Katelin Hawbaker (22:37 – 28th), Makenna Neuenschwander (23:16 – 38th) and Lauren Klaehn (23:25 – 42nd).
Star spikers top Indians
BERNE — In its final home match of the season, the South Adams volleyball team defeated the Union City Indians Tuesday 25-13, 25-17 and 25-9 on senior night.
Alyssa Bluhm, one of two seniors on the squad, paved the way for the Starfire offense, recording 19 kills and 12 assists. Emma Rossworm had a team-high 16 assists, and Cady Farow tallied seven kills, six digs and three aces.
Caralie Farlow tallied five kills and two digs, while Lauren Smith had four digs and Cindy Int’Groen had three kills.
The Starfires (9-22) travel to Fort Wayne South Side on Monday for their last match of the season before traveling to Woodlan Oct. 24 for the sectional opener against Churubusco.
In junior varsity action, the Starfires beat the Indians 25-18, 25-5. Abby Myers posted team highs in kills (nine) and digs (eight), and Chastity Guereca led South Adams with 13 kills to go with her seven digs and two aces.

Stuber leads Stars in win
WOODBURN — Joe Stuber ran for two touchdowns and threw for another Tuesday as the South Adams Middle School eighth grade football team defeated the Woodlan Warriors 19-7.
Stuber ran for 120 yards on 11 carries, reaching the end zone on 3- and 4-yard scoring plays. He also completed 3-of-4 passes for 52 yards, including a connection to Isaiah Baumgartner for a 35-yard score.
Baumgartner rushed for 32 yards on five carries, and Brandon Newman added 28 yards on six carries.
Stuber led the Starfire defense as well, recording a team-high nine tackles, and Grant Shaffer, Mason Sell and Baumgartner each added six stops.
Terry Dawn and Stuber added interceptions on the day.
The Starfires finished the season with a 5-2 record and were 3-2 in the Allen County Athletic Conference.
