Starfire golfers split
SAHS roundup
GENEVA - The Wayne Trace Raiders edged the South Adams High School girls golf team 209-207 Tuesday.
Tricia Crider was the only Starfire player to break 50, recording two pars and four bogeys at the Golf Club of the Limberlost. She shot 48 to finish five strokes behind the match medalist from Wayne Trace.
Jansen Yoder had three pars and a bogey as she shot 52, and Kaytlyn Pierce had three bogeys for a 54. Grace Dobler had a par and three bogeys to complete the team score with a 55.
Kristen Lehman shot 57.
Sarah Muselman had one par as she shot 56 to lead the junior varsity team to a score of 261.
Boys soccer falls
GARRETT - The Starfires pulled even at halftime before giving up two second-half goals in a 3-1 loss to the Garrett Railroaders.
Blake Bauman, a junior, tallied the only South Adams goal on a penalty kick with one minute left in the first half. The kick came after Zach Sharp was tackled in the 18-yard box.
The Railroaders go goals from Trent Leverenz and Michael Snyder in the second half for the final margin. Nathan Sliger scored their goal in the first half.
Spikers now 1-9
BERNE - The visiting Parkway Panthers proved too powerful Tuesday as they handed the South Adams volleyball team a 25-11, 25-16, 25-12 defeat.
Karen Bollenbacher finished with nine digs, five kills and two blocks for the Starfires. SAHS dropped to 1-9 on the year.
South Adams also dropped the junior varsity match 25-17, 25-12.
Girls soccer loses
BERNE - South Adams suffered an 8-0 shutout Tuesday at the hands of the Leo Lions.
The Starfires played most of the game on their defensive end as Leo blasted more than 20 shots on goal in the victory.
