Starfire spikers snap skid against Raiders (09/07/05)

PONETO — This one had been a long time coming.

South Adams ended its long losing streak Tuesday, handing the Southern Wells Raiders a 25-12, 25-20, 31-29 defeat.

The victory was the second of the season for the Starfires, who are now just 2-9 overall but 1-0 in the Allen County Athletic Conference.

Renee Neuenschwander paced the victory, racking up team highs of 10 kills, five aces and one block. She also had six digs.

Brooke Fox totaled five kills, and Maranda Potts posted a team-best seven digs. Brandi Craig had two aces, Alyssa Miller put up 20 assists and Tamara Moser added one block.

Liberty edges Patriots

MARION — Jay County needed just a few more points.

The Patriots took a two games to one lead Tuesday night, but dropped each of the final two by three points for a 25-22, 13-25, 15-25, 25-22, 15-12 loss to Liberty Christian.

Theresa Reinhart led Jay County as the team just missed picking up its fourth victory of the season. She posted team highs of nine digs and three aces while also adding four kills and one assist.

Shelby Rines and Markie Runyon shared the a team-best total with eight kills apiece.

Runyon also had six blocks for the Patriots (3-9).

Erica Clark posted 21 assists to go along with four kills and two blocks, and Ashley Horn had seven digs.

Jay County also dropped the junior varsity match to Liberty Christian Tuesday.

Julie Alig finished with three digs, two kills and two aces in the defeat. Sarah Westgerdes had five kills and two aces, and Sharon Dirksen totaled six assists and two aces.

Stephanie Wellman finished with four assists and three digs.[[In-content Ad]]
